The Man, The Myth, The Legend! The Legendary Sir Richard Branson!

I came across some Richard Branson quotes recently that I absolutely love. Love, love what this man has to say! And yes, I'm sharing them with you this week so you can love them too. That put me into research mode as I delved into the life of this fascinating, somewhat eccentric man. First things first, he shall henceforth be known as Sir Richard Branson in this blog, because he was knighted by Prince Charles for his "services to entrepreneurship." How cool is that? He now has a full-on title, just like Sir Elton John and Dame Judi Dench. Oh those British and their titles! Makes me want to drink tea and watch some Masterpiece Theater or Pride and Prejudice. But if ever there's someone who deserves to be knighted for his awesomeness in being an entrepreneur, it's Sir Branson. Heck, his Wikipedia page alone will keep you reading for hours!

Prison Or Millionaire: Could Go Either Way!

One of the most interesting things about him from his youth – though not at all surprising if you ever read about the lives of people who succeed big-time in business – is that he didn't finish high school. He's dyslexic, so school was a struggle and he failed his exams. His headmaster predicted for his future that he'd either end up in prison or become a millionaire. Wow. Once out in the world, he got to work on fulfilling the millionaire version of his future.

Sir Richard Branson has spent his career pursuing his interests in a variety of fields. If he liked it, he found a way to be involved! Music, television, aviation, communications, health care, hotels, transportation, the environment, humanitarian endeavors, and now, space travel! What hasn't this man done?! Many business ventures later – some successful, some not – he's at the top of his game. In his personal life, he's no less adventurous. He's climbed mountains, attempted world records for sailing and ballooning (I'm sure that's not what it's supposed to be called), and done a whole bunch of other crazy-sounding stuff. He clearly likes to live on the edge!

Meanwhile, I've taken up golf. I know, crazy!

I hope you'll check out some of the simple, practical, smart Richard Branson quotes I'm sharing this week, like this one: "Business opportunities are like buses: there's always another one coming." Ha! That's so damn British! I live in L.A., so I'm not sure I'd have made that one up. If I used a bus analogy, it would sound more like, "Business opportunities are like buses. When one finally shows up, you better get on it!" But that's not what he meant. He's saying that opportunities are everywhere. (Like traffic in L.A., that's something we do have plenty of.) His career is evidence of that. The big difference between him and most other entrepreneurs is his utter fearlessness when it comes to taking risks.

And then there's this gem from him: "Learn from failure. If you are an entrepreneur and your first venture wasn’t a success, welcome to the club!" Is that a club you're already a member of? No shame in failure I always say... and so does Sir Richard Branson!
