How Would You Describe Yourself... Entrepreneur Or Small Business Owner? What About Mogul Or Magnate? Insider Secrets Every Business Mogul Knows! - The Profit Goddess Logo

People don't typically describe themselves as a business mogul, or magnate or tycoon... or any of those odd, specific words we reserve for people like Oprah, Rockefeller, Gates and others who are so successful that we know them by just one name. (Add to that list Beyoncé and Gwyneth.) It would take a pretty, shall we say, “strong” ego to say that with a straight face. Or more accurately, the person they're talking to would have to keep a straight face. Can you imagine overhearing that conversation? “And what is it that you do?” “I do lots of things. I'm a business mogul.” Or “I'm a very important media magnate.” Huh? Seriously?

If you've ever been at a party with me, you may have heard me say my own version of that, but without anything resembling a straight face. “I'm a party planning genius. A goddess actually!” And that's how the name of my business was born: The Party Goddess! With an exclamation point of course, because who doesn't love a party?!! The Party Tycoon! and Party Czar! just don't work as well, so I went with Goddess.  Goddess refers to my ability, expertise and flair rather than the size of my business. Besides, who wants to see an exclamation point after tycoon or czar? Weird right? I don't need an entire business empire to know how to pull off a fabulous event. And you don't need to have a gigantic business and multiple companies to be good at what you do. But that doesn't mean we can't learn from those who do!

Business Mogul Advice Even You Can Use!

So what is it about these terms that we like? They get assigned to certain people as a concise and immediate way of conveying the degree of their success and elevating their status. Real estate tycoon. Media giant. Shipping magnate. Retail mogul. Tech icon. Right away you know that's a person who's been very successful and who does business on a big scale. They've diversified, invested in businesses, bought up other businesses, ventured into new markets, paved the way in their industry with new innovations. It's probably safe to assume that they've not only had many successes along the way, but failures too. Their brains are likely full of insights about how to achieve success (not a one-size-fits-all path).

I'm sharing quotes from a business mogul or two this week (OK, one of them might be fictional, but I like the quote anyway). I especially like what Steve Jobs says about not needing to do things better than the competition, just different. Differentiating your business can often be better than doing the same thing as someone else. It reminds me of Apple's ad campaign slogan from the late 1990s: Think Different.

Speaking of different, are you in desperate need of simple and easy steps to attract clients you love, create a pricing strategy and ditch the door knockers? Then you've come to the right place! Take our 7 Day Challenge for FREE!
