Want To Inspire People? Get On Social Media & Start Sharing!

Do you remember life before Twitter? Come on, think back. It's not that long ago, only a few years, even though that's like decades in social media time. I was just thinking about how we take our online lives for granted now. Social media is such a given. Every day, we consume and share news, images, videos and quotes as a way to be informed, advertise our businesses, stay connected, maybe brag a little. I was thinking about Twitter specifically, because you can't go online now without seeing a bunch of Twitter posts. Doesn't matter if they're clever, serious, funny or dumb; whether they're empowering words or stinging criticism, once they're put out there for all to see... well, everyone can see them. And retweet them. And after enough retweets, a viral meme is born! Twitter is a whole new online addiction!

As I was choosing what quotes to share this week, I found myself thinking about the pre-Twitter world. I've chosen some meaningful quotes and empowering words from famous and distinguished people, all of whom you've definitely heard of: Robin Williams, Marilyn Monroe, Albert Einstein. They — like so many public figures — were interviewed a lot and their words were documented. We have access to a huge repository of quotes from famous people. But what will that "library" look like in the future? With Twitter and Instagram and every other social media platform, anyone's quote can go viral or make its way into a news article.

Empowering Words You'll Want To Share!

So I wonder who'll be quoted years from now. Whose words will make it onto a bumper sticker or t-shirt, or be turned into mass-produced art? Or better yet, whose phrases will become part of our everyday speech? Just something I was mulling over recently as I thought about how easy it is for us to share ideas. Consider the millions who marched in cities all over the world last month. It was a movement led by students, done the way they do things: using social media. Just like when teenagers used to spread the word on Facebook about an open house party that inevitably involved the cops and damage to furniture (except kids on Facebook is so five years ago). Pretty remarkable.

Anyway, this week I'm giving you some quotes from "old timey times" that'll help you accentuate the positive, eliminate the negative! I hope they'll give you a fresh perspective and help you feel positively inspired. All empowering words from a pre-Twitter era that are still worth sharing and retweeting!
