What Makes Entrepreneurs & Small Business Owners Tick?!

Welcome to my new blog Q&A series featuring some amazingly cool entrepreneurs and small business owners graciously sharing the answers to 3 questions about 13 year olds, surprises and obsessions. Enjoy!

This time around, I want to introduce you to my great friend Stephanie Burns, Founder and CEO of Chic CEO. Forbes Magazine named Chic CEO to the 2011 list of Top 10 Entrepreneurial Websites for Women.

What's one thing you would tell your 13-year-old self from your current perspective and why?

"You don’t have to stay in the Midwest!!

Until I was 22, I didn’t know that I could really leave the Midwest. I really didn’t have any idea that it was a possibility for me. I never thought about it until my best friend from high school told me she was moving to San Diego after we graduated college. I said, “Huh. I’ll do that too.” and I packed up my truck and drove out. I had never been to California before.

I found that with a little courage, we can really surprise ourselves. Once we got to California, I realized that it wasn’t much different from where I just came from. It then dawned on me that if I just apply a little courage, I can do anything I want.

It was very liberating - I really wish at 13 I would have known that.”

What's something people would be super surprised to know about you?

“Well I have 3 tattoos, I’ve hiked the Grand Canyon and I’ve been to racecar driving school - that usually surprises people. ;)”

Who or what are you obsessed with?

“Lately, I’m really obsessed with God. The Universe. Spirit. Highest Being... Whatever it is to you. The genius of our Higher Self keeps me up at night, wakes me up in the morning and stimulates more internal conversations in my mind than I care to admit.

Meeting us where we are, whatever our beliefs, this Spirit/God/Soul, reaches us in a unique and individual way and we all have our own journey despite being one with each other. Makes me feel small and magnificent at the same time. There are so many expressions of spirituality/religion that I believe we are all right and we are all wrong.

I’m obsessed with the polarity of it and the unity of it. It’s my most favorite puzzle that I hope to never solve ;)”
