Top Female Athletes: Women To Admire & Inspire!
Tennis anyone? Small business coach, event planner extraordinaire and occasional sports fan Marley Majcher shares inspiration from some of her favorite female athletes to inspire other entrepreneurs to improve their game.
These Women Will Inspire You To Up Your Game!
Over at The Party Goddess! — my alter ego business — we've been sharing the joys of healthy living with blogs about keeping your body and mind balanced and energized, ways to make your surroundings calm and beautiful (hint: driftwood & plants), and much more. We've also got some fun videos, plus dating advice to help you survive the wacky world of modern romance. Sounds great, doesn't it? But wait, don't click over there just yet! I'm not done here! My health kick for the new year is spilling over to this blog, sort of. I was watching the Australian Open recently and found myself feeling so inspired by the female athletes pounding the ball in 100+ degree heat. When it's that hot, all I can think about is lounging in a pool, drink in hand, handsome pool boy nearby. The thought of an hours-long tennis match is more than I can fathom.
Yes, I know they're professional athletes and all. That's what they do. But still. Hard to not be super impressed by anyone at the top of their game. Years of training, discipline, the grind, not to mention the sheer talent... all very impressive! I feel the same way about anyone at the top of any game, whether it's another sport, or business, music, dance, science, medicine, invention. Talent and hard work should be admired! And speaking of talent and hard work, the Winter Olympics are about to start. Woo hoo! Instead of watching Game of Thrones reruns, I'll be binging on speed skating, luge and skiing. And that's just the female athletes. But don't worry, I won't forget about the men. They're impressive too, especially when attired in all that wintery spandex. My poor Netflix account is gonna feel very neglected this month.
Tennis Anyone? Female Athletes Who Kick Booty!
But back to my health kick... and maybe it's time I at least make a mention of something business-related since that's the whole point of this blog. January and February are the quietest months in the event planning business. Apparently everyone is partied out from the holidays, holed up alone so they can get through their dry January without the temptations of seasonal cocktails and other libations. (Or is that just me? Thank God for that Australian Open and Netflix!)
It's definitely my slow season, which makes it a good time for some housekeeping, annual planning, taking a second look at year-end financials, all that good stuff. Since I usually have time to slow down, I also try to work in a little extra exercise for both body and brain. Meditation is good, especially for an ADD person like me, and so is yoga. When I feel the need to move (which is actually most of the time), I might try tennis this month. It'll get me outside, get me moving — and I get to do it in a cute outfit, so what's not to love?!
This week, I'm sharing quotes from some very talented, impressive female athletes, several of them tennis players. In fact, two are so famous that they've earned single-name status: Billie Jean and Serena. (Chris Evert is also uber famous, but her name doesn't have quite the same recognition when you just say Chris.) All of these ladies worked hard to get to the top of their sport and have much wisdom to pass along to us regular folks. A lot of their advice translates well beyond sports, so I hope you can find some inspiration for yourself. After all, owning your own business is a bit of an endurance sport, wouldn't you say?
Be Oh So Quotable This Week!
