How To Survive The First Year Of A Startup!
Small business expert & experienced entrepreneur Marley Majcher shares some favorite quotes and talks about what's involved in launching a startup company.
Starting A Business? No Worries! (Ha!)
Going solo! For some people, the sound of that — regardless of the scenario — makes them break out in a cold sweat. For me, that's how I feel about going to the dentist. But doing stuff alone is not a problem. In fact, I welcome it. (Most of the time, unless it's a group date night thing full of couples. Then... ugh!) I always had designs to start my own company. I knew that I wanted to be my own boss and be the one in charge running the entire show. My ideas, my business. Still, starting a business on my own — going solo — was about one of the scariest things I've done. Getting off the ground is a big deal. I had plenty of startup anxiety. First, there's the money. Whether it's yours or an investor's, it's no small matter to come up with that! And once you have it, all you do is worry about losing it!
Launching Your Startup And Keeping It Afloat
Once you have your funding figured out, then there's the actual company you're setting up. Every industry and each type of business has its own challenges and hoops you have to jump through. Whether you're making a product or providing a service, there's so much to accomplish in the beginning. Perfecting the product or the production line, passing inspections, getting the required licenses, setting up shop (literally) and acquiring all the necessary goods, building a client roster, establishing supplier relationships, creating word-of-mouth buzz — I'm exhausted just thinking about it all! But these are the things an entrepreneur must do to get a startup business up and running. What usually follows next is a ton of hard work: long days, late nights, weekends. In order to be successful and last beyond your first year, you need to be attentive, adaptable and well informed about what you're doing and the business you're in. No problem! Right? It is a lot of work and worry, but running your own business can be so rewarding and interesting. And hopefully, it will also be lucrative!
