Help! I've Lost My Business Motivation!
Small business expert & entrepreneur Marley Majcher shares favorite quotes and advice on how to recharge for the new year and find your business motivation.
Lost Your Motivation? Maybe I Can Help You Find It! (And if I can’t, no one can!)
It happens. We all run out of steam once in a while. After a long day – or in the middle of a long day – you might feel the couch calling to you, your favorite blanket and Netflix account longing for some attention. (Don't deny that's never happened!) So, considerate person that you are, you curl up with a hot drink – maybe spiked, maybe not, you know which kind I prefer!! – and you indulge your lazy streak. No crime in that. December's a busy month. And depending on your work situation, it can be crazy there if you're trying to wrap up loose ends. So seriously, if you're feeling wiped out, unenthusiastic, like you've lost all personal or business motivation... who can blame you? Taking time to recharge, even if it's just an evening, is a good thing. A necessary thing! Your blankie needs you, people! Hallmark movies and Netflix need you!
Sometimes, a timeout is just what we need in order to power through to the end of a busy phase. If that's where you are right now – feeling kinda blah and unmotivated at work – NO BIGGIE! In fact, join the club! I'm currently very excited about the holidays and am extremely busy celebrating them! (Have you seen my Instagram?) I'm so busy, in fact, that I'm feeling totally unmotivated and uninspired to do the mundane, yet necessary stuff of business ownership. Goal setting? Puh-leeze! Year-end accounting? Ha, are you kidding? I've got parties to go to, parties to host and holiday cocktails to enjoy! Who has the time or interest when mistletoe and eggnog await? I sure as heck don't!
’Tis The Season For Burnout!
So how does one enjoy the holidays without everything going to hell in a handbasket? My advice is this: If your calendar is full of holiday engagements, go enjoy them all! They're a big part of what makes this time of year special. Later, when the holiday buzz fades, along with the hangover from all the fun/work/craziness, take some time to catch your breath and do whatever you enjoy. Rediscover your fabulous self. Then, find your productive self and get your a** back to work! Everything you ditched in December will still be there waiting for you in January. Oh joy.
But what if, when January rolls around, you're feeling recovered and refreshed... you've got that new scarf, feeling oh-so French every time you wear it. And you've even given your blanket and Netflix a rest. You know you need to get back to serious work, but you're still not feeling it? No business motivation, no personal motivation, just plain burned out. What to do?
My Best Advice To Get Back Your Business Motivation!
Well, honey, you've come to the right place for the answer to that! In a tricky move, I'm going to redirect you to my other blog at The Party Goddess!, which is about my event planning business. There, you can read the tale of how I overcame severe burnout and stress... though not before landing in the hospital and almost dying... twice! For real, it was pretty scary. I promise it won't take you long to get through, so it might be worth a look. The story involves a breakup, hallucinations, last rites given by a priest (you'll laugh, you'll cry!). And then there were letters to my children, which I was told to write "just in case." Fun stuff.
OK, wait! Before you decide that sounds too "Nightmare Before Christmas," I should tell you it actually reads very Hallmark-movie–esque – complete with a happy ending. (Spoiler alert: I did not fall in love with the handsome doctor. I'm not even sure if I had a handsome doctor.) But I'm still here, healthy and thriving and motivated as ever! The story also has a list of my best antidotes to burnout, which might also help you in your quest to regain motivation for the year ahead. Check it out – I hope it helps you!
Speaking of burnout, do you feel like you're too busy? Or like you're always working but not much is getting done? Your solution is right here and it's FREE!
