Let's Focus, People! It's The Thing That Sets Successful Businesses Apart!

Are you trying to map a path to success? Well now that I've said that, that kind of sounds like a dumb question! Of course you are. You're here, reading this blog (yeah for you!). And you probably have a stack of business magazines somewhere, maybe waiting to be read, but hey, at least you got those subscriptions. And the reason you don't have time to read them? You're pulling long days working hard to get your business where you want it to be. So hell yeah, you're trying to map a path for success! One of the best habits a small business owner can develop is to look around at what other entrepreneurs are doing. Try to figure out what they're doing right and wrong and then act accordingly. Either emulate... or do the exact opposite! This week I'm talking about some of the things that most successful businesses do. Why? Because you (and I) can and should do them, too!

Evaluate How You Spend Your Time! Where Have You Heard That Before? Hmmm...

Long before I wrote my book — back when I was trying to figure out why I was so dang busy, yet so damn poor! — I came to realize that one of the most crucial changes I needed to make was to meticulously, truthfully track how I spent my time. Figuring out a system for doing this — which I called Coding Your Way to Cash — enabled me to see how much time I spent on various projects and tasks. This led me to figure out how I could make my own adjustments to save money, and where I could bring in more money by charging my clients more. This is something that all business owners should be doing regularly. You need to spend time evaluating your business and know exactly what you should focus on. This will help you work smarter, in so many ways. Sounds pretty smart doesn't it? It's something most successful businesses are doing regularly.
