Who Can Think About Serious Business When It's This Stinkin' Hot?!!
People — it's HOT! Not that I need to tell you that. Maybe it's even hotter where you live. (Sorry!) But here I am trying to write something enlightening about business growth strategies and all I can think about is how I want to be in a swimming pool. Or skiing. I guess I shouldn't complain. I have working AC. And it's not like I live in England, where their roads apparently can't handle temps in the low 30s (Celcius, which is like all of 90 degrees). This week the tarmac on a road actually, literally melted and caused a truck to get stuck. And a man! Yes, a man out for a walk got stuck in a melted sinkhole and had to be rescued with hammer and chisel. Wow. Just wow. Gives "Help, I've fallen and I can't get up" a whole new visual.
So at least my street hasn't melted. But all this recent indoor time has me thinking — and not just about frosty drinks and imagining the accents of the rescue workers on that British fire department Facebook page — but serious stuff as well. Work-related stuff. No really! I've been reading up on business growth strategies and comparing them to my own experience. It's been a good diversion from thinking about the heat.
Finding Business Growth Strategies That Work For You!
Business growth strategies — is that something you think about often? Not so much? It's not exactly the first item in my search history when I type the letters "bu". (Do you know what does come up? Buzzfeed and then, wait for it... Burger King! Huh...?) Search history aside, it's a good topic to research since I'm a small business owner and expanding my business is something I want to do.
Most articles I see about growing a business, expanding one's reach, finding new markets (insert any other business jargon-y phrase you can think of here) are usually aimed at businesses larger than mine. So they're not always super helpful. Inevitably, the author suggests buying another business. Right, why didn't I think of that?! While I'm out doing errands, getting my dry cleaning, maybe I'll just buy the dry cleaners. And the shop next door while I'm at it. I know nothing about that machine thingy or those chemicals, but whatever! At least I'm expanding! So sometimes we small biz owners need to think a little smaller, be more realistic. We need to think in terms of what would actually work for us!
A Realistic Approach To Growing Your Business!
What are some more realistic business growth strategies? How about diversifying? Expanding your product offering or increasing the types of services you offer is something you can do without breaking the bank. And if you need to change course or make a few corrections, you can. Another doable strategy is to increase your customer base, which will, in turn, lead to more sales. Think of joining the chamber of commerce or a business group related to your field so so you can network with other businesses that you could potentially partner with.
Also, make sure you're always giving your customers or clients the best possible experience when they do business with you. This can lead to referrals, which are free (!) and are an excellent way to gain new customers. Same goes for increasing the amount of repeat business you get from happy customers. It may go without saying — except that I'll say it anyway — upping your social media presence can go a long way to attracting tech-savvy customers and making it possible for them to find out about you in the first place. Don't be shy about exploring the world of apps, which is another way to make it easy for people to do business with you. Anyway, those are just a few thoughts to help you keep your mind on your business as you try to beat the heat! Stay cool everyone!
